Steiner school Frome

Hello, this is my first post and I could do with making it local to Frome (Somerset), but don't know how to!
Anyway, I'm interested in relocating to Frome and cautiously interested in the state Steiner school there. So if there's anyone with experience of Frome or its Steiner school- or both- it would be great to have some info.

No info - Dorset not Somerset - but wish I had a Steiner school near me. Good luck and don't believe erything you read on MN!

Hi, yes I'm in Frome & know all about it. The school is currently operating from a village nearby (Corsley). There have been quite a few people relocating to use it & they have a current planning application in to move into the centre of Frome. This is very contentious because of the traffic issues & at the moment its unlikely to get consent. They plan to increase the size to 650 pupils. I suspect it will stay at Corsley for several more years.

What usually happens on a Steiner discussion thread on Mumsnet is:-

1. A posting saying, without details, that Steiner Schools are great and not to believe the sorts of accusations critics make. Had one of those.

1. A posting from someone critical of Steiner, usually with links to info on the Internet. These links will include the accusation that steinerism is essentialy an occult religion which as it is organised on esoteric lines, is less than open about its real nature. had one of those.

1. Then postings start which are hugely supportive of Steiner schools. Due to their distinctive style thay can be traced quickly to individuals acting on behalf of the Steiner orgainisation, but without declaring their interest or identity, not realising that their inevitable unmasking just makes people feel that poster 2 was on to something.

Because of the predictability steiner threads are less fun than they used to be.

Ha ha! it's definitely a polarising subject. I imagine that the smaller, private Steiner schools could vary depending on location, head and current intake- whereas a state steiner would prob have to conform a little more to certain guidelines- and be subject to ofsted. I certainly have read some quite vitriolic stuff re steiner schools on the internet but am keeping mind open.

Powerpants, I have heard about the one at Ringwood and I thought hard about that one and the one at Bruton, but finally decided that the distances involved for us would mean spending almost as much time in the car as at school.
nlondondad, I have nothing whatsoever to do with Steiner establishment. I lived for several years in Germany, where they seem to be more common, and gave extra English lessons to older students from the local Steiner school. I really like many of their ideas about education, when children are ready to learn various skills, etc. I have no information about the possibility of their being an esoteric religious cult, although my German mother taught in one in the '50s and disliked the fact that staff were not supposed to watch TV or read the more lurid press.
