teddington playgroups

Hello, does anyone have experience with playgroups (sessional daycare) in Teddington (Middlesex)? I have heard great things about Playwam but it seems unlikely that I will get a place for Spetember for my 3yr old.
If anyone has any experience with good (or bad) playgroups I'd be grateful for the info.
TIA x

No experience with the playgroups. But, I live in Sunbury and have a 3 year old. so just thought I'd say "hi". Mine is heading off to nursery in Twickenham in Sept. Yippeee.... school at last. Grin Too bad it isn't for full days.

Hello!
Thanks for saying "hi"
Which nursery is yours going to?

Have you been in Sunbury long?

Hi, she's going to thenursery which is attached to the primary where she will hopefully go: Archdeacon Cambridge. So, it's nursery school, not a nursery like Tedies or Asquith court. I work full time (which is why I'm not well versed in playgroups). She is with our nanny the rest of the time, and I also have an 11 month old DS. They do spend their time around Kingston, Twickenham, Richmond, Kew, Sunbury. But, I'm afraid I don't really have first hand experience.

stay on the playwam waiting list - you'd be amazed at the Sept movement

Methodist playgroup is fantastic (in the Methodist church hall opposite Tedd hospital) - I can't remember the hours, it's less than playwam and cheaper

foxinsocks · 19/04/2006 16:48

can't remember the name but the one in the church hall at St Peter St Paul is also supposed to be good (but it's quite expensive and I imagine has a waiting list aswell)

housearrest · 19/04/2006 17:37

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm going to go on the Playwam waiting list and hope for the best. I've also seen some info on Hampton Hill Nursery School and the reports seem really good-anyone know anything about that one?
I've also just found out today that my DS has got a place at Collis nursery school (and we then live in hope that he moves into their primary school) so its really just for that one term.
He's been with me since birth, though he does got to playgroups and clubs and stuff, but I don't want him to suddenly be expected to start school and wonder what's happening!

Collis is lovely and the nursery class there really is fantastic and very well thought of.

Uwila · 20/04/2006 12:44

If he enrolls in Collis nursery, does he get priority into reception? If he does, I'd send him there just to secure that reception place.

foxinsocks · 20/04/2006 16:06

no there's no priority for reception - none of the schools in Teddington do it like that (even the church schools). I assume Archdeacon has no preference for the nursery either (but I imagine if you got in on your god miles, they must count something for reception entrance criteria!).

For the last couple of years there have been a fair few who have got into the nursery at a Tedd school and not into reception.

Uwila · 20/04/2006 16:11

Nursery kids at Archdeacon get priority into reception regardless of whether or not they are affiliated with Holy Trinity. In fact, kids who attend the nursery get priority over churchgoers who did not attend the nursery. But, I know that not all schools set the criteria this way.

foxinsocks · 20/04/2006 16:14

oh that's good for you - makes her place in the nursery even more important!!

Uwila · 20/04/2006 16:16

Oh yes! And, syblins also get priority. So, when DD gets into reception (fingers crossed!), DS will get into nursery, and then into reception. Just hope they don't change the entrace criteria before time to apply for DS' reception place.

So, yes, I was a basket of nerves waiting for the nursery acceptance letter cause I knew that their primary education all hinged on DD's acceptance into nursery.

Yippee!!! Grin

foxinsocks · 20/04/2006 16:23

that's great! There's no sibling preference here for entrance to the nursery (there is for entrance to reception) which is a real pain.

Sounds like you've done most of the hard work now and can sit back and relax for the next 7 years!

housearrest · 20/04/2006 17:39

Hello, thanks for all the info.
I am delighted about Collis but, as a friend of mine with a 4rd DD recently found out, acceptance into nursery does not guarantee a place in reception. I really loved Collis when we went to see it and the head teacher so we'll be very disappointed if our DS doesn't get a place but that's something we'll deal with then!
Now...I just need to find him a playgroup!
As we're not churchgoers then we dont really stand a chance in a fair few of the ones in Teddington.

Foxinsocks you sound like a person who knows their way around a school...?

I don't - but I did look at all the schools round here and loads and loads of the pre-schools. We also, between most of my friends, cover virtually all the schools and pre-schools round here! The Methodist preschool - you don't have to be religious to go to - it's very loving and warm. They do follow general religious themes at the appropriate times of year but that was never a problem for us (I went to a church school as a child so I'm not anti religion!). I don't know about the Hampton Hill nursery.

Does anyone know anything about Little Munsters playgroup? I will be moving to Teddington in a month time and I don't know much about any pre school. So please if somebody could help me with some info...

Peanut306 · 23/09/2006 21:48

@housearrest

did your little one make it into playwam?

two of my daughters used to go there!

:-)

Hi
We are thinking of sending our little boy to Archdeacon Cambridge. Can anybody give us any information of what the school is like? I am aware of the admission criteria... Any advice or info gratefully received :)
