Y6 ds - label says washable. Cheap(LOL)ish polyester type, not tweedy type.

Should I have washed it by now? Blush

DS's needs to be washed every half term but I try spinging it if I can get away with it as it goes all limp and bobbly after being washed in the machine, its polyester - what am I doing wrong? -to all you people who wash them every week?

You're possibly doing nothing wrong. Some man-made fibres wash well, while others bobble - could be the quality of the fabric.

Thanks cecily unfortunatley we have no choice in the quality of the school blazer...bloody John Lewis!

DS had polyester blazer so weekly.
DD had a wool blazer so it was dry cleaned about twice in three years; she only needed it on high days and holidays. That's my excuse!

Well, I go by the philosophy that if it looks OK and smells OK then why on earth are you wasting your time washing it?... And if that means it never gets washed in 5 years, then aren't you the lucky one?!

Every Friday and yes Bunbaker my DS (7) does appear to wrestle in the mud in it ...

I sniff DD1's blazer regularly and it is not pongy. I may wash it on a delicate cycle next week (half term) or I may not, depending on how house proud I am feeling.

PE kit is weekly, though. And I am about to buy her a second set as she does an out of school sports club every single day and plays netball for the Yr 7/8 team, so that does get sweaty.

She travels home in her PE kit, thank goodness!

Wash them alot, they used to have wool blazers, tweed type and they both went in on a wool wash with no problems. Saved a fortune in dry cleaning after I got the tip from the uniform shop.

Every week, it stinks otherwise.

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone had advice on cleaning stains on dry clean only wool blazers? I can’t be taking it to the dry cleaners every time there is a stain, so any advice on getting small stains out?

Also where do you hang blazers? Back in the wardrobe or just hanging in the room? Just wondering if moths will like to get to wool blazers that haven’t been washed and are just hanging there! But not a lot I can do about it keeping it clean regularly, when it’s dry clean only. Can’t be dry cleaning every week.

Polyester blazer washed once every week at least when worn everyday. Covid means we now have sports kits days, but it still goes into the wash on Friday. Teenage son, can get very stinky ( and yes, he deodorises and showers daily) Overnight drying means it's easy to do, esp if smelly mid week. Blazer is second hand and still looks fine, no fading. So glad its not a wool blazer.

Every Friday, nothing worse than an unwashed blazer and a teenager...especially if it's polyester!
