I'm sure someone once posted that there was something more to this rhyme to cope with all the exceptions but I can't remember what it is - anyone know? (ds is doing i before e at school).

Our spelling scheme went
I before e except after c, when the sound is "ee"
E before I is always the way, when the sound is "ay"

Use i before e
Except after c

Or when sounded as "EYE" or "AY"
as in Einstein, neighbor, and weigh.

Neither, weird, foreign, leisure,
Seize, forfeit, and height
Are Exceptions spelled right

But don't let the C-I-E-N words get you uptight! Grin

There was more to this rhyme and it had to do with, "the V you spy". I can't remember it---Anyone?
