The 'school food trust ' are going to change the food provided in vending machines from this sept.
Food like , chocolate bars, crisps and fizzy drinks will be replaced with milk, fruit juice, water, nuts, seeds, and fruit.

The trust are asking for parental opinons on this, but we only have until the end of this month to make our views known.

If you have a child with a severe food allergy your views will be important.

given that alot of chocolate bars contain nuts or 'may contain traces of nuts' etc having nuts will not make a huge difference for nut allergy sufferers.

Also not that many people are affecetd by water / juice / milk where as the crap they put in 'juice drinks' / fruit shoots / diet fizzy drinks etc cant be good.

Geven that vending machines are already there surely changing the content to healthier foods MUST be a good thing?

This is a huge area for debate, as loose nuts will be sold.
trace amounts can cause an allergic reaction, for me personally i would be a happier if the nuts were sealed in chocolate. Rather than handled around school.

there is the question of a new risk assement for children with food allergies when bags of nuts and seeds are spread loose around the school.

nuts being "sealed" in chocolate will make no difference to a child with a severe reaction.

I know of someone who had a reaction from a nut touching a worksurface that she then touched whilst eating breakfast
