any one listening to the education debate on r4?

ooooooh that man makes me cross.

he passed the 11 plus and was the first person in his family to go to university so that means that all forms of testing are a good thing and anyone trying to say otherwise will be interrupted......

Yes, but he is a git, which explains everything.

HumphreyCobbler · 29/08/2012 20:40

didn't hear this, but that man is deeply annoying.

all he does interrupt and ask questions that set people up to sound defensive. I can listen and evaluate an answer all by myself, thank you very much.

Humphries didn't go to university. I like him - he asks pertinent questions when the "experts" are mouthing platitudes.

HumphreyCobbler · 29/08/2012 20:50

I think his questions are poorly thought out most of the time.

Edi Mair asks pertinent questions. John Humphries blusters and accuses.

Clockless · 29/08/2012 21:11

perhaps i misunderstod his line about 'nobody in my fmily had even heard of university..' but he was suggesting that he did so well in school and got to where he was all thanks to the 11+

On the Today programme is always so busy telling his interviewees what he thinks they think and then telling them why he thinks they are wrong that nobody ever gets to hear what his interviewees really think about anything at all. The man is unbelievably irritating and doesn't appear to know when to shut up and let the other person put their foot in it for a change.

CecilyP · 30/08/2012 16:11

Totally agree. It is not so bad with politicians, but he also does this with ordinary people who might have something interesting to say if Humphries let them. I am surprised more of his interviewees don't say, 'there's not much point in me being here, is there?'

I'm boycotting him. Any suggestions about what to listen to instead at 8am? I'm not that fond of vintage comedy, and there's too much banal chat on radio 6.
