torah is a scroll the length of Wembley stadium, writeen in hebrew- can't remember if it right to left or down! I think the equivalent is the pali canon. Have a look here \link{http://www.dharmaforkids.com\website which might help} I am sure an expert will be on in a minute!

Thanks guys Smile

IIRC the Torah is written right to left

But the question is how the spaces between the words compare and whether the words are indented at the start of the paragraph

"be aware of the Tripitake and the three kinds of writing it contains."

Though there are different collections of scripture in Buddhism, the best known is the 'Three Baskets'. The title may refer to the fact that the texts were originally written on manuscripts made of palm leaves and put into baskets for storage. Another tradition suggest that the title refers to the custom of passing on baskets of earth from hand to hand when constructing a building. So the scriptures are passed on from generation to generation.

try this site - it's for teachers but think this is the thing you want\link{http://www.strath.ac.uk/Departments/SocialStudies/RE/Database/Glossaries/Buddhism/Tripitake.html\very hard homework!}

what I didn't know that buddhists had a specific holy book. thought they had different stories... or maybe that is Hindus???

WigWamBam · 13/03/2006 19:54

I know it's called the Pali Canon or the Tipitaka, but don't know how it's written or what it looks like!

Message below is alittle garbled. I should be diong my planning but got intrigued! According to my simple book it is the pali canon but think the name triptake is also in use.
