Cost of GCSE tutoring

Looking at tutoring for my DD who needs support in English GCSE.

I'll only consider an experienced and qualified English teacher, and prefer not to use an agency because I know they charge more.

How much is the going rate in the south east- home counties?

probably £25-£40 per huor

£40 an hour. But bear in mind some really top quality teachers will only ever work through an agency as it's so much easier and more convenient for them in terms of advertising and vetting and organising. I know a few such teachers and to a man or woman, they go through agencies if they want work.

Ask at your DD's school if any English teachers offer tutoring if you don't want to go through an agency. The thing with an agency is at least you know they've been checked and whatnot.
