dd's been learning French at school but doesn't seem to have taken much in so far ... we're off to France on holiday and she's very interested in all things French at the moment and says she'd like to learn some 'proper' French over the holidays

can anyone recommend some good primary level resources please? she's 9, just coming to the end of Y4

Learning French in primary school may or not not result in children learning a lot of French - it depends on the nature of the teaching and all sorts of other factors; it depends also on what we think it is realistic to achieve in terms of acquiring a certain competence in a language in the primary school - though I'd say that the fact that your daughter has become 'very keen on all things French' is a successful outcome in itself - the challenge now is to sustain that interest. You might find 'French for Primary School Teachers' useful for you to work with your daughter on her French yourself - read the contents on Amazon - lots of 'primary' kinds of things.
Good Luck!

Hi! I recommend a green mouse French songs for kids - lots of traditional French songs, some with actions and sound effects which I think your daughter would really like - authentic French tunes which any French child would recognise. They would be quite hard to begin with, but each song has a translation track with all the words in English and French as well as explanations of any actions. You can download them from itunes and download the words online or buy the CD which includes a booklet of all the words

My DD's textbook is called Expo, of that is any help.
