Authorised absence

I think I know the answer to this but just want confirmation if possible. Ds has SEN and school have had him on a reduced timetable for 8 months now. Am I correct in thinking that they should be logging this time as authorised absence?
The end of year report is imminent and I am waiting to see what his attendance figures are. I have just looked at an interim report from January and it states his attendance was 100% which is not right so I am concerned that they aren't officially recording this.

He is probably being given a 'B' mark, which means 'educated off site' and can be used as a short term code for children receiving education at another site, including at home if work is provided.

It is a present mark rather than an absence code so won't affect his or the school's attendance %.

They have supplied very little work and only when chased for this. They have not marked or monitored any of it!

Then you are right Wink he shouldn't be getting a B mark. The LA should be monitoring it's use via an EWO, SN or not and questioning its use.

In our area we could use it for a max of 6 weeks before it was reviewed, parents had to sign a form to say the child was supervised during the hours the mark was given, and to say that the EWO could turn up to do spot checks to make sure the child and supervisor were there and that the work provided was being done. This was 2.5 years ago, but I doubt that much has charged wrt it's use.

The LA are aware but don't seem too bothered. He was on a PSP for the maximum 16 weeks and we are pushing for full time but school says that unless more statement hours are supplied by the county they won't have him full time Sad
