Terrington Hall School, North Yorkshire

Anyone have any experience of this School? Or other Independent Schools in North Yorkshire? Looking for school for DS.

I've heard very different things about this school. One parent loving it and another being very unhappy with it. I guess it depends on your DS and what he is like. If he is sporty, then the sports facilities are reportedly very good. It does have a reputation for being a bit of an academic hothouse and quite pressured academically (depends if you think this is a good or bad thing). I would go for a visit in term time and see what you think.
What area are you looking in? Day or boarding? Is religion a consideration? Other independent prep schools in the area are Woodleigh at Langton and St Martin's, Ampleforth at Gilling Castle and I've heard good things from parents of children there.
Are you set on independent schools, because the local small village schools in this area of North Yorkshire are mostly all excellent and I know of quite a few parents who have chosen them over the independent schools in the area.

I lived v locally and despite knowing many, many people who went down the indie route in York there's no one I know who's chosen this school. Though I have never heard anything bad about it so maybe its just a case of a quirk in those I know... Sorry not to be more useful

Asking as we are hoping to move v local to the school and DH is set on Independent school for DS.
I am happy to take a look at the village school as went to one myself and think it looks lovely.
Ive heard of St Martins but not all good so not sure about that as a choice. Though think the bad press was more focused on Ampleforth College rather than the prep. I am looking for day. Will look into Woodleigh. Not heard of that one or Malsis - where is that?
