Problems getting Common Entrance Exam Results - what can I do?? Please help.

My DS recently sat his CE exams.

We received a phonecall and letter very quickly (2 days) after he finished to say he had passed and was being offered a place at our/his first choice school.

Great.

They said results would follow. Tomorrow is 2 weeks since the final exam and we still have no actual results. All the other children in his prep school have had their full results although I must stress he is the only child going onto this senior school.

DS went for a trial sleepover at his new school last Friday night and was told by 3 of the other "new" boys who had also sat CE (from other preps) that they had had their actual results too. I did enquire about the actual results on Saturday when we collected him (8 days after exams had finished) and was told his papers were still with the head.

Now this school has its own entrance exams in February as well as entry by CE in June. We opted for CE in June as this is what his prep school recommended. However, I am wondering if the new school simply marked what they classed as essential papers Maths,Eng, Science etc initially to decide if they should offer a place - we had the confirmation of him passing very quickly. But then why had the other boys had their CE results??

Where as it is great news DS has passed, he spent 2 years slogging away for these exams and expected to be told how he has done by results in % and/or grade (like EVERY other pupil in his prep school that sat CE). He worked really hard since Xmas and has a very good work ethic. I am now very dissapointed at the new schools delay in getting his results out and worry he wont get them at all.

After all his work I think he deserves to know how he did in each subject and I know its irrelevant but we have also paid for CE - so expect to know the grades/marks. I am panicking as new school breaks up at the start of next week.

DS's current Head chased results again yesterday and just received a message to say they were not all marked Hmm or similar - DS relayed this to me over a dodgy mobile signal last night. I have asked DS to ask his head to chase the results again on Thursday but wonder what I can do?? Its a bit if a delicate situation - I feel very strongly DS deserves to know all his grades regardless of whether the new school takes any notice of them or not. I dont feel it says alot about his efforts if the new school does not mark them or give him his individual results Sad Angry.

But what can I do??? I dont want to get off on the wrong foot with the new school before DS has even started??

What would you do?? Anyone have any advice on how I should take this forward bearing in mind next Monday is the end of term at his new school?? (He still has 2 weeks at prep school). Am just not sure how to take this forward and my DH is currently deployed overseas and uncontactable so I really could do with an outsider opinion or help as I am wondering if I am being too precious.

I would relax, I know it's annoying but bigger picture is the exam has been passed. You will find out in due course - can you not write a very polite email to the school yourself or pick up the phone and explain the situation? I am sure they'll understand.

I know I am very highly strung about all of this atm. I just find it odd that the other candidates know their results but not my son. I am worried it is assumed he knows when he does not.

I will send an email tomorrow politely chasing up the results.

No advice OP,but Westminster School lost my brother's exam results in exactly this way.

My parents then decided that they couldn't trust a school with pastoral care if the staff were this careless with admin, and decided against sending my brother there...

Agree with other advise. My son was told he had pawed his CE & received his written results the following day. There may be a simple explanation as to why your son hasn't found out, but he's been told he has a place at his senior school so try not to worry. I'm sure all will be dealt with to your satisfaction eventually.

Good luck to DS for his next school place! My son had his last GCSE today & is heading to pastures new for sixth form. Time literally has flown!

If you've paid for the exam and other kids have the results then you have the right to know the results. I would send an email stating that you have been informed that other children have the results and you would like them to be sent out immediately.

Why not ring the senior school yourself to get the results? From the ISEB website...

Results of the 13+ examinations should be available to junior schools by the Thursday of the week following the examinations and before parents are informed on the Friday. Heads of junior schools appreciate it if heads of senior schools contact them by telephone about failures by the Tuesday of the week following the examination.

Thanks Trinity.

DS called earlier to say he has been told his results are there and will get getting them at break this morning.

Looks like I was panicking. Blush But they were late.

Fingers crossed he did as well as he hoped.
