Good school in London with extended hours for 4 year old

Hi,

I have a son who is currently 3 and half and goes to a Nursery. But recently we have been very concerned as the nursery doesn't seem to satisfy all his needs regarding learning and development.
We are looking for a school (State or Private) in London at the moment which is very good in terms of learning and development and also has extended hours. For ex., we have looked at Hill House School in Central London, but not sure if they have extended hours. Would be great if the school is near to the Canary Wharf region, but frankly we don't mind moving to somewhere else in London.

Lots of schools have after school provision, but I think it might be better to identify what you want in a school first then look for childcare to wrap around it.

From memory:

Lyceum- clubs, but no formal wrap around
Charterhouse Sq - I think they did do extended hours
Dallington - not sure
Rosemary Works - extended hours
Children's House - no formal wrap around

Check the websites and that might get you started.

Do you mean clubs? If so then that will take them up to 4 or so. How long do you need the day to be?

I thought there are primary schools which have extended hours, for ex. till 5 or so...
I am more keen on the school though... I agree abt the wrap around childcare...
Can you suggest any good primary school in London?

Lyceum opens at 8.30am (ish!) and clubs/homework run till 5.45pm (strictly kept).
Hope this helps.

Eveline School in Balham is open from 7.30 til 6.30 I think and 51 weeks of the year. All the way through primary.

Hi all,

Thanks for the information. I have now checked all the websites and think Eveline school has the best hours, although I'm not very sure of the area...whereas, Lyceum and Charterhouse are in very good location...
If you know of any other schools, please let me know...
Much appreciated... :)

I wouldn't suggest you live on the doorstep of Eveline, but there are some very nice places round and about (or there wouldn't be a market for the school) especially around the Commons, including places with great houses with big gardens. It depends on how close you think you need to be to the school to shorten your travel time in the morning / how much you feel you need to live in one of the posher postcodes (where your housing budget will also probably not stretch so far...).

By the way, I know nothing about Lyceum but have just spent 1 minute looking at their website and I found two pretty basic errors on their 11+ leavers page. It lists Streatham & Clapham High School as a State school (it isn't) and also mentions 'St Ignatious' school [sic], which is a basic spelling error. I would expect better for a school with fees set at that sort of level. Surely a school should be able to talk accurately about the schools it is sending its leavers too...

Ravenscourt Park Prep School and Kew Green Prep (sister schools) offer care from 8am to 6pm, as does Heathfield House School in Chiswick. They're all private, although the basic fees at Heathfield House are a lot lower, and not very close to Canary Wharf!

'school it is sending its leavers too' Wizzy? [win]

FarrowAndBollock · 28/05/2012 21:06

Wink even. I'm as bad!

but then I'm not selling myself as a very expensive educator of children, so I think you can let me off.

Hi -
Near canary wharf:
Green gables Montessori - a new primary linked to an excellent and long established nursery - both have extended hours
River House Montessori, in Canary wharf, and has after school care, I think
and
Faraday School - East India Dock; has after school clubs, and is not montessori
