Same sex schools?

I read an article about girls who go to all girl schools do better with their education than girls who go to mixed sex schools. I went to a mixed sex school and I did good but, well being a parent has suddenly made me believe every problem that people talk about that might involve my daughter haha!

So, was just wondering what you gals thought about this? Do you think it would be more beneficial for your little one to go to an all girl/boy school or do you prefer mixed sex schools?

Are the all girls schools you are looking at highly selective? It's easy for a school to get top marks if they cream off the best at 11. It depends what you want your DD to get from her education. It has to be broader than results I think. There are pros and cons to both and I think your answer ends up being child specific. Sorry there isn't an answer from me (and trust me, it's a dilemma that we are going backwards and forwards on for DS1 right now!!)

The single-sex vs co-ed debate is only really relevant to secondary schools as state primary schools are mixed. In many areas of the country you may have a choice between an all-girls school and a co-ed school in the state sector for your dd, but some LEAs do not have a single-sex option and if you want this you may have to choose a private school.
I went to an all-girls secondary school, but chose a co-ed school for my dd who is rather a tomboy.

There has just been a big debate on this in education last week. As always lots of different arguments were made I think you can search it.
