after reading a thread afew weeks ago about signing for hearing babies, i realised that ds already had a few signs for several things...so i have tried to invent some more for him
And he is doing just brilliant....he says quite afew words, but mainly me and dh only knows what he means but he now has LOADS of signs in just about a week and can have a proper conversation....earlier today he asked for more juice followed by tweenies then got cross when it was the wrong tweenies vid and asked for the one with 'two fat gentlemen' on!!!!
am sooo proud (and very sad no doubt!)
wish i had known about signing when he was way younger and had bougth the book...
next time....

i was already doing stuff without realising.
like all gone, want up and lots of animal signs...
then a week or so ago i read more about it on mumsnet and have started inventing others
wish i had known earlier as ds is 16 months and is saying words (some not very clearly tho). With next (!) i will buy the book
no persistence at all required in our case
he just learned eat, dancing and santa tonight!! he says a version of them too and the sign just helps reinforce it
am working on raisin, sore teeth (he does brush teeth) and boobah
any ideas???

fio2- eventually I checked out the shouting (I had been ignoring it as he often shouts when the washing machine is on and dares to stop) and he was trying to steal honey. So I sent him in to watch Dave. Then ds2 kept turning the video off- more screaming! I was trying to cook tea. My house is a mess, and very screamy!

jimjams - that sounds a bit like my house

just had to revive this thread....
it is kind of link to signing for hearing babies
I found this video and wondered if anyone else had any experience of it?
Ds now loves actions to songs and is starting make up signs of his own (so cute!) and his talking is getting much better too (not that he is a poor talker anyway)
Want to by him an action rhyme video
any suggestions?

popsycal. Sasha Felix came to an activity dsay I organised for 100 childminders last spring, she also spoke at our National Conferenece this autumn.

She had never spoken to groups until we asked her after seeing her on Channel 4, I think she's great.

I bought the DVD in November and used it with an 18 month old who has no language, She came back today and mum said she had been signing all sorts of words over christmas to explain she wanted more, all gone etc. It was truly amazing, so I asked her where the cats were, and she signed all gone! I can't believe how much she picked up from watching it 3 times!

I don't use TV very much with my mindies, but this had been a big hit, I also use Baby Mozart for relaxation, that is magic to watch and listen to!
