Are you a reception teacher? Or assistant?

I'd love to know what you think of the kids you get in reception year - how would you characterise a child who is ready for school and one who isn't? What would you advise parents if you go a child you really thought wasn't ready for school, or does this not actually occur?

Are there any things that kids must be doing before they are going to benefit from and enjoy school?

there's several recent threads on "what should they know when they start school" , if you look for them under education, I guess (I started one myself, about 3 years ago). It came down to personal hygiene, physical self-care, and recognising their own name.
