blined instead of blind.

dd said she and her friends sniggered but didn't say anything.

I'm quite shocked at basic spelling mistakes by someone who is supposed to be educated.Dh thinks she was probably distracted,dd thinks she's dyslexic. Is this unusual?

Dd's class teacher (Y6) couldn't spell. I moved dd. To be honest I'd rather have an inspirational art teacher who can't spell than a dull one who can. I know lots of teachers with very poor grammar skills and weak spelling. Very scary.

Out ex head of art was dyslexic. a great artist though. Isn't that more important?

I am crap at spelling but I am good at teaching science...ironicaly I can spell the science words just fine.

And I have a degree in biochemistry and a PGCE, and have done research in the three of the top universities in the UK.....so I consider myself to be quite well educated

I've doubled the take up in biology A level, so I guess I'm doing something right, even if I can't spell

There are 3 teachers in my school- all scienced based and all dyslexic BUT they can all spell long science words no probs.

I don't think it's terribly uncommon these days (unfortunately) for teachers to be unable to spell - particularly young ones. A result of their own education when correct spelling was thought to be not very important.

DD1's reception teacher would regularly write "excellant" in dd's work book, and a girl I used to work with (a recent graduate) who left my office to train as a maths teacher was a terrible speller.

It's not a new thing though - I remember being 14 and having to correct my English teacher when he wrote "catastrophy" on the board.

i'm always correcting or would like to correct spellings the LSAs put down for children

Hallgerda · 03/02/2006 10:48

I've had to correct spellings on my children's lists of spellings to learn!

HenniPenni · 03/02/2006 11:00

Hallgerda, we do that to.
