5 to 6

The governmant wants all children to reach 5, but would prefer them to get a 6.

Lower attainment would be 4, exceptional performance would be a 7. In actual fact the school is told the point value, so children get 5.5 etc

As a rule of thumb children with a 5 at the end of KS3 are expected to get 5 a* to C grades at GCSE. Above that you'd expect more, below, less....but this is just an average

Thanks MB for that info.
My dd1 is in yr8, but her secondary school has taken a group of 30 girls when they entered in yr7 and in fast tracking them through the system. They have just sat their mock SATs which they shouldn't be doing until May 2007. She got a level 7 for Literacy which she was pleased with, but I couldn't placate her when she was 5 marks short of a level 7 for maths!!!! I tried telling her that these were fantastic results and that she shouldn't even be doing them yet, but she insists "it's not good enough". the maths teacher just said that she's on target, in my opinion she's on target for meltdown!!
Anyway, thankyou again for the info I will show it to her and hopefully she'll believe how great she's doing.
