Advice on homeschooling my DS

My DS is 4.5 and in reception year at school (started in January). Last year in his pre-reception year they covered the Letterland stuff. This year they are doing Jolly Phonics, Maths and covering a weekly topic.

We are taking him out of school in April to travel for 8 months. I don't expect to be able to perform miracles but I am really interested in developing some sort of schedule with him and teaching him myself.

I plan to continue with this curriculum - the teacher is giving me some prep material. What I really wanted though, is to make it more than just homework. I want him to really learn and be as prepared for school next year as he would be if he were teacher taught.

Are there any homeschoolers out there? Your suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

Contact educationotherwise (www.educationotherwise.org.uk) they will be able to give you lots of advice/info and can probably put you in touch with someone who has done something similar.
