Chorister Westminster Abbey?

Does anyone have any experience of this? We have started talking about it for DS. DH was a chorister (not WA) and remembers it as a fantastic, life-changing experience. But I can't get my head round the boarding. Do you 'lose' your son or do you feel as though you are getting to join in something fabulous?

I am also interested in WA specifically having only choristers and whether that works or is a bit claustrophobic?

I appreciate there is the small matter of getting in, so this is probably all a moot point (!) but I am someone who likes to know as much as possible. I have not visited yet. I'm sure that if I do, I will see lots of happy-looking boys and it will all look brilliant, so I am interested in hearing the 'inside track'...

NB we are focusing on WA because of geography.

I know nothing about choristers but I full boarded both mine from yr3. IME you don?t ?lose your son" if you board them. I have a very good relationship with both of mine. They are now teenagers one is still boarding but we remain very close family many comment on it and much closed than many friends who have never boarded their children.

Both the people I know who were choristers there fairly recently enjoyed it. Although if you're worried about it being only choristers at the school have you though about St Paul's?

I'm not sure if I'm worried about it or actually think it a good thing. A friend had a son at another choir school and I got the impression that the choristers - the reason the school was founded - were now seen as a bit of a pain by management.

Thanks, both. Glad I was not inundated with horror stories...!
