Independent schools - fee remission for school staff

Does anyone happen to know whether any schools give discounts on fees for the DCs of non-teaching staff? I'm considering applying for an admin post at a local indy school. It would be a bit of a step down for me in terms of type of role and salary, but if there's fee remission that would (more than) make-up for it if my 2 DCs were to get into the school (no guarantees of that of course). Sounds a bit mercenary so am a bit uncomfortable asking the school for details. Suppose I must, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Most do and it is usually something between 10 and 50%. Some might be more.

As WillowFae says - it might be pro-rated if you work part-time. I can understand about being uncomfortable asking. In a job interview it would be normal to discuss salary expectations and you could raise it at that point (or they might raise it), as it would be part of the package. Alternatively get a friend with fake DC details to phone up and ask the person dealing with recruitment!

Most do and if you are not full time it is pro-rated. I had a finance position at an indy school ten years ago and had my son gone there ( we moved away before he was old enough) I would have got 50% fee remission on the day fees ( had he boarded would have had to pay the full boarding element). I think you should just ask them- in this situation is is part of the package on offer and if you were applying for several jobs and wanted to compare which was the best in financial terms you need to know this. I asked this question at the interview when I went for my job - and was handed a sheet they gave to everyone they interviewed for jobs in school explaining what the deal was on fees for staff.

have you checked out their website, our school puts the information on staff fee reductions on the vacancies page of the website (I know many other schools do too)

Thanks all. Nothing on the website that I can see. I think if I get to a second stage interview or am offered the job I'll ask at that point. It would be a considerable drop in salary so this sort of thing would swing whether I'd take a job if offered. You have given me some hope that there might be a deal to be done.

Of course they might not want my DCs there anyway!!!

All our staff are entitled to the same. It is often a little less in the junior (primary) end of school as the fees are so much lower.

How did it go?
