Aldenham School

Can anyone tell me anything about this school. DH has been offered a job overseas for 3 years and we are looking at the possibility of sending out DTs to a boarding school instead of taking them with us. They are currently Year 8 and there is only one school in the new location which teaches IGCSE rather than GCSE.

We live very close to Aldenham at the moment so the boys would be able to come home at the weekends if we appoint a guardian. It seems to me that this could be a less disruptive solution than dragging them away from home again. We have spent 3 years overseas already and have only been back in the UK since last July. We would probably move overseas again in September just after the start of the school year which means that they would only have had 1 year back in a UK school before leaving again.

We haven't decided yet whether to go this route and we haven't said anything to the boys about the offer. We are currently looking at options and this just occurred to me as a possible solution.

My DD is in the prep school and we are thrilled with it but I have had very little to do with the senior school so can't really comment. I have a feeling that a lot of the boarders are from overseas so it would be good to check out what the situation would be like at the weekends if they stayed on site. The results at secondary level aren't fantastic, certainly not as good as many of the state secondaries in the area hence we will probably move DD on at 11. What about Mill Hill? The new head is making a concerted effort to improve their academic standards and is introducing weekly boarding and dropping Saturday school from this September. If your DT's are able then it is worth talking to them as they may have spaces.
