Advice needed re illness and nursery

dd is really suffering with illness at the mo - ear infecitons - cold's - hand foot and mouth etc she has a week off nursery (attached to a school) and then a week later she's off with something else so i think her body's not having enough time to recover she has cerebal palsy anyway so on top of this is running her little body now.

So me and dh have spoken this morning and we'd like to keep her off school till after the feb half term (they go back on the 24th Feb)

Can we do this - is nursery for a 3 3/4 yr old compulsary ???

You can do this, I don't think school is compulsary until their 5th birthday. I'm sure if you take to the school they would understand and keep her place open.

Nursery is not compulsory. When a child is off sick, the school counts it as an authorised absence. It's up to you to decide when your dd is healthy enough to attend. As long as you notify the school, it should be fine.

It's not compulsory, and the nursery class will have got her funding by now for the term anyway so I can't see why they would complain. Personally I would just explain politely that you're keeping her off until then because of health reasons - you want to keep them onside, but you do not need their "permission".

DS1 started nursery last week (3.1yr), I kept him off yesterday as he has a really bad cold and was up all night. Anyway called the school and explained, secretary seemed fine.
Today I got a letter from the head explaining the Attendance Policy, basically stating that they'll have the Educational Welfare Officer onto us if his attendance falls below 85% WTF. He's 3

fairydust, it does sound as if your dd needs some time to get her immune system back on track.

Like others have said talk to the nursery and make the arrangement as ammicable as possible because although nursery is not compulsory once you loose a place it can be very difficult to find another which is good.
