For brownies, I need four short stories they can read and then act out (in their groups of six) from another culture.... can anyone please help?

We use Handa's Surprise a lot in Reception but my 6 year old still likes it. Will look up author tomorrow if you like.

How short?

lunavix · 24/01/2006 21:30

just so they can act them out, but not lose interest.
I have tons of multicultural stuff, but it's all too long (books like amazing grace etc) and I've tried shortening it but can't.

Grandpa's Birthday by Cecilia Avalos (Literacy Links Plus)

Kali and the athputli Puppets by Vayu Naidu & David Griffiths (isnb 000313654X)

These are slightly below their ages (maybe 6y) but would be OK to act out

What about a chinese poem?
I'll type it if you're interested

Do you have Festivals Together (isbn 1869890469) by Sue Fitzjohn, Minda Weston & Judy Large - that has loads of short stories in them

And the (very) old brownie manual used to have stories about brownies from other cultures

i'll have a look katymac, I need it tomorrow though lol so a trip to the library is in order!

I don't really mind what it is as long as they can act it...

Try the chinese poem then

2 children 2 kites the wind & a dragon (see it's 6)

The Centipede and the Butterfly

Two little sisters went walking one day,
Partly for exercise, partly for play,
They took with them kites which they wanted to fly,
One a big centipede, one a great butterfly,
Then up in a moment the kites floated high,
Like dragons that seemed to be touching the sky.

If you're still searching, have a look at The Story Tree, tales to read aloud retold by Hugh Lupton. ISBN1841483117. We got it at our library. Wonderful.
