Good questions for parents evening

My ds is 6.5 and in Year 1 (p2 in N.ireland). Seems to be in the top set for things and is doing generally ok academically, socially etc.

In NI they don't seem to volunteer data (for this age group at least) about their place in the year, or where they are in line with NC standards...

Previous parents evenings never seem to tell me anything I don't know, so I'm wondering what you guys ask?

what are good parental interview questions?

Ask what you can do at home to support his learning in school.

Point out the things where you think he faces issues and see if they agree. Eg " I think he may sometimes struggle to..." or he doesn't seem to be interested in " or " he's really fascinated by what you did when.." and see what they say.

What do you think his learning goals should be in both short and long term? Social skills? What sort of help does he need at school and is there anything he struggles with? What does he find easy? How are you challenging / supporting him? How is his attainment being measured (what grades is he getting). Hope this helps

Is he a happy child at school

Does he volunteer answers or wait to be asked

Does he initiate questions

What specific short term targets does he have in order to meet his end of year prediction.

Is he on track to achieve his predicted level

What should I be doing at home to help him achieve the goals that have been set for him

What aspect of school does he find the most difficult - what strategies do you have in place for this and what can I do at home to support him on this

What aspect of school does he thrive at
