DS has done algebra homework in preparation for his 11+ on the 30th. Can anyone tell me if his answers are right please?

QUESTION ANSWER
9x + 1 = 5x + 9 4x =8 1x =2

9X - 11 = 3x + 13 6x =24 1x =4

6x - 5 = 4x + 7 2x = 12 1x =6

11x - 26 = 10x +18 1x = 46

12x - 16 = 7x-1 5x = 15 1x = 3

There are a few more for checking too!

Here is a different explanation: They are equations, so both sides are equal. You can do anything you like, as long as you do it equally to both sides, e.g. add, subtract, divide. For example:

9x + 1 = 5x + 9

Take 5x away from both sides
4x + 1 = 9

Take 1 away from both sides
4x = 8

Divide both sides by 4
x=2
