DS is 3 in September. On the 7th.

Will he start this year or the whole next year in September?

if you mean nursery as in the year in state school that they can do before reception then it's the whole next year September (i.e. the school year he turns 4)

Different policies in different areas.
In the past here he would have started the whole next year in September. But now they have falling birth rates so are offering earlier places and he would be able to start after Christmas.

but you should get nursery grant from Jan 2007 if you want to get him a place elsewhere in the meantime (term after he turns 3)

Depends on where you are. My sister's boyfriends nephews (in Newcastle) started FT nursery age 3.

best to look it up on your local council's website or give you local Children's Information Service (number should be on council's website) a ring. It does differ by area although the nursery grant shouldn't.
