Don't know how different it is from Kindermusic, but my ds (2.3) loves Music Train, which is a weekly group where parents take their children and participate with them, and there is a leader who structures the class (about 45 mins) into a welcome song, then a go on some instruments (different every week, say tambourines or claves or chime bars, all hand held percussion stuff) and we bang those to some songs you know (this old man he played one etc) and some you don't that are easy to pick up. There also some movement bits, like pretending to be an elephant or whatever the music requires, and maybe the hokey cokey, and some sitting listening to music, perhaps while the teacher blows bubbles which the children love, and a goodbye song.

I did wonder if anything was going in, but I sing with ds a lot at home, and at random times he'll suddenly start on a music train song so it definitely is.

I used to take my dd to a music and singing class when I was on ML from the age of about 3 months. She absolutely loved it, and it was one of the things I missed most when I went back to work, to the point where I used up some annual leave for 1/2 days off so I could still take her! She loved it.

The woman that runs the classes now goes to dd's nursery once a week to do classes there so she still gets her fix. By all accounts she is one of the most receptive kids there and knows all the actions and loves to play on the tambourines etc.

Well worth a go, imo.

My eldest two did Kindermusic and loved it,

I thought DS2 would love such a group, given his remarkable ability to sing "Twinkle Twinkle" perfectly in tune at the age of 17 months, but I took him along to one and he absolutely loathed it!

All 3 of mine have done Kindermusik. DS1 and DS2 did it from 2.5 years and DS3 from 6 months. DS3 is far and away the most musical (although that might just be natural talent), but the other two are fairly competent too. They have progressed more quickly than usual due to their knowledge of music theory (albeit in very basic terms). DS1 in his Grade 1 for oboe scored a distinction. I am absolutely certain that this is due in part to Kindermusik.

Oh I should add that DS1 at 18 months was a nightmare at Kindermusik and we were asked by the teacher, very politely, to stop going. He then acquired the same teacher at nursery at 2.5 years and has never looked back. Perhaps it's an age thing with each child.

I took DS2 to Kindermusik when we were living in Singapore and we loved it. Interesting selection of music (not just twee stuff and nursery rhymes) and good books/CDs as well. He was 18 months to about 2.5 when we did it.

My DS (18 months) also hated Music with Mummy which was a shame because I enjoyed it but on the last session he cried all the way through so the teacher gave me my money back.
