Definitely moving, either within Surrey or to Richmond area. I know about applying for either or but during total lack Of sleep I got to thinking, can I apply in both lea areas or do they use same system/ I have to give some unique Id which Identifies me as having already made application for that child? Not looking to defraud just not sure what we can afford and how quickly house would sell, either way am going to be on waiting lists as way out of catchment for all schools on two areas we have narrowed it down to.

Any ideas please?

Silly me, out of home area application gets cc'd to other area doesn't it, so I would apply in Surrey but still Surrey would also see my Richmond lea application right?

And don't you need an address to apply plus proof of living there so not quite sure how it would work til you had actually got a firm offer on somewhere to rent or buy ( there may be some exceptions for diplomatic workers etc)

You must apply to the LA where you live even if you are applying for schools in other LAs. I think from your OP that you live in Surrey so you apply to Surrey. You can include schools in Richmond on your list of preferences.

I was in a situation where I had moved but my local school did not have places for my first child, so they had to go to school in a different LEA. When I applied for my second child, I applied to 2 different LEAs directly and having had offers for both I was able to accept one and turn the other one down. There were no issues with it.

That should not happen any more. The rules are that you apply to your local LA. If the preferred school is in another LA your local LA must pass on the application. They then ensure that you only receive one offer.

Whilst no-one is likely to kick up a fuss if the LA gets it wrong those are the rules they are supposed to follow.
