What time does your school finish?

As the question asks really. DS and DD have just gone to a new school and now the school day has been changed. They used to finish at 4.00 pm and I would collect them. Now the school day has been changed to a 4.30 pm finish and this is putting me in al the rush hour traffic. We get home much later.

The school has moved activities and prep to the middle of the day. I have already had a note back saying DD didnt attend an activity she signed up for and have had to blast her out but she just says she doesnt want to do activities. Fair enough in my book but as the school say, she has to do an activity because its in the school day now. They argue its better because it allows busses to leave earlier but I am finding it very inconvenient. I am just wondering if this is a common trend or if I might find a school which finishes earlier?
I havent looked around yet, just thought I would ask first if its happeneing all over. Thanks

Last year it was 2.45, it's now 2.55 so that parents with child also in the juniors haven't got a long wait, juniors finish at 3.

3:15, but they are not private schools. They finish 4, 4:30 or 5 ish around here. And sometimes later after activities.

onceinawhile · 06/12/2011 09:27

Sounds like a private school, as they also finish around 4pm around here.

Our village school closes at 3:30pm.

So they have just moved schools and youre considering moving them again, as the 4.30 finish is in convenient, why did you not consider this in the first place?

Tinselrella · 06/12/2011 13:30

4pm, but that is a private school.

manicinsomniac · 06/12/2011 14:53

3cutedarlings, to answer your question. I looked around the schools here when we moved here in the simmer and selected this particular one because it seemed good and would take both DS and DD as it is co educational. Yes, it is a private school. I know private schools finish later than state ones but usually they are over by 4.00pm. In our last place I had DD and DS out of xchool by 3.40 pm ( then there was a break and anyone staying on would do activities or prep from 4.00 pm - 5.00 pm).

When I moved DD and DS to this school the school day finished at 4.00 pm. After half term they made an unexpected change and are now finishing at 4.30 pm. DC's are tired, I am tired and the move seems to have gone down like lead with many other parents too but this is how it is now. My only option is to put up or to move DC's
