is she supposed to just recognise the letters? i doubt she would be expected to read all the words

Ae all the pictures the ee words - if so it's just reinforcement

But if there are both pictures - that seems hard

Could you draw the pictures on a peice of paper with the correct word next to them (in a random order)
Then she has to work it out - but she has a clue

Is a 6yr-old child really expected to know how to use a dictionary??

Aloha · 07/01/2006 22:51

Oh, I'd just tell her which was which, maybe look them up in the dictionary together for fun and 'to check if mummy's right' and then talk about it to see if she remembers.
That's enough for a baby of barely six.

most of the homework we get for year 1 expects a parent to help out. dont feel bad about getting involved, i suspect that half the reason for sending homework at this age is for parents to do something with their kids so they have an idea of what they get up to in school

Tbh if this is beyond your dd2's current abilities, then I would send a note back into school with the homework to say so.

All work, including homework, should be differentiated appropriately - especially in a mixed ages class.
