cranium - good game for all the family?

(Sorry if this is in wrong section: I trawled through the other categories and thought here was best fit.)

I want to buy a Christmas board game - I remember seeing on MN some time ago a teacher mentioning her secondary school pupils loved a certain game but I can't remember if it was Cranium or not and exhaustive searching has failed to locate the thread.

So would anyone recommend Cranium for age range 8 to 48? Is the ordinary Cranium suitable for age 8 (this being MN I have to add that the 8-year-old is of course very bright Wink )

It would be fine as a 'team' game. The pictionary/ modelling bit is fine for their age, but some of the other categories are quite difficult. We got it for my dad one year and play it every Christmas (we are 35-70!). It is quite hard! I messed up spelling 'cappuccino' (only put one 'p' in it). I am still Blush - my spelling is pretty good.

Not sure about kids but I like it!

DD and her friends (10 - 15) love it
I hate it
but it keeps them amused en masse on rainy non school days .....

Cranium is great. But yes the younger ones should probably team up with an older one. It will last you for years.

We love cranium. Another fave for a variety of ages is articulate.

Thanks v much. Is it better if you have a large group of people? There are four of us - would two teams of two be rather sad?

Nope, we sometimes play in 2 teams of 2. That's fine.

(It can last forever with too many teams)

We've got Cranium Cadoo.
It's for ages 7 and over and it's very good. It's based on the adult version and we all enjoy playing it.

Cranium is great. I had a selection of games when I taugt in secondary, I didn't have cranium but other popular games were Uno, Bendominoes and jigsaws! My 6th form tutor group loved an hour of doing a jigsaw and they had their own set of uno to play in the common room!

Right - I think I'll get it then. It must be better than Monopoly City which I got last year. SNORESVILLE! What is the point if you can just zoom straight to hotels? That game is festering in the garage waiting for me to be bothered to do a car boot sale.

Yes, it's a pretty good game. We've had ours since the youngest was 6 or 7.
