WWYD - noisy FE class

My work are paying for me to do an accounting course on day release. I'm in my final year and finding it quite hard going. I've had to change college this year, and I'm in a class of 24. We are packed in like sardines into a tiny room, with no option to move around.

It is supposed to be a course for adults, but 2 girls sit behind me who are under 18. They talk, and talk and talk. They talk over the tutor, they talk when we are supposed to be working quietly. One in particular likes to call out all the time. The tutor will explain some concept, then as we move on to the next bit this girl will say "what does that mean?". I'm pretty sure it's attention-seeking, rather than a need to know, because when we work on the examples she is always very quick to finish, and seems to grasp the concepts quickly.

Everyone in the class is fed up with her, and there has been a lot of muttering, but no-one has actually done/ said anything about it/to her. A couple of weeks ago she shouted out "what's a yacht?" and actually pronounced it as it is spelled. YA -CH-T) Everyone cracked up and kept commenting on it, so she did shut up for a bit. But this week she was back on fine form.

I hate confrontation and I really don't want to have to turn round to her and ask her to stop talking, but the tutor isn't doing anything and I just can't concentrate with the constant yakking. I'm actually worried I'm going to lose it and end up shouting "shut the fuck up" one of these days, it's that annoying.

Would you complain to the tutor directly?

I had a young lad like that in my GCSE maths class last year. I did tell him to shut up as other people were there to learn and he was stopping them. I also took the piss a bit with him and he settled down a bit. I still see him round town and he's really friendly with me.

It's the tutors job to keep discipline so that everyone in the class can learn, so yes, you should complain to the tutor.

I work in a school and there's nothing like a bit of peer pressure for getting the class 'comic' to shut up so I would say something to the girl that's disturbing you as well.
