Right first new year's resolution is to get my head around basic grammar.

so the apostrophe.......how and when????

We use an apostrophe for either possession or contraction.

When it comes to it's - if 'it is' cannot be substituted into the sentence then no apostrophe.

Great website, MB. I'll be directing my class there when they go through the phase of deciding you need an apostrophe before every s.
