My DS (5 in June) is reading well at level 3 ORT and has been for some time but we have now been advised that he should have extra literacy classes every morning to catch up. Is he that far behind? He is not concerned and neither were we - just wondered if the school were being over the top.

Be pleased that school are actually doing something, I have had such a fight trying to get my daughters school to do something for her.

Here this is the ORT guide

www.oup.co.uk/pdf/oxed/primary/ORTreadingAges.pdf

Hope this helps, I have to say this is just a guide. My daughter is 9 next May and is on Stage 7, My son is 6 in March and on Stage 9, He does have Aspergers and Hyperlexia though.
