I know it sounds unusual but have you considered online tutoring?
My DD2 had Glandular fever for 4 months this year and didn't do as well as expected in her AS biology so is retaking one paper and we wanted a tutor to help her improve her chances.

We tried one 'in person' tutor but they didn't really gel. I saw one (Tutorhunt I think) who sounded fab and contacted her only to find she did online only.
I was very dubious even tho her results and references are amazing.. so my DD did a trial lesson.. from her own bedroom using Skype.

It has been brilliant. No travel involved... tutor emails topic info ahead of the session, they go thro it and do LOTS of exam practice questions. My DD's confidence and school work has improved massively already.

Have a look at tutorhunt and other sites (you have to pay if you decide to go with one.. about £20)

This is ours and she is bloody brilliant! (her own web site so contactable directly)
