Anyone know anything about schools in Wheathampstead?

Hi, a friend of mine is relocating here around April. She asked me as I know St Albans a little but I don't know Wheathampstead.

She's looking for primary schools but she read something about kids being bussed out as there isn't enough places. Is this right? I suggested the OFSTED site. Is there something local she can check?

Her DDs are 3 and 1.

I don't think there is any problem with the primaries but (and it might seem a long way off to your friend if her children are so young) I understand that there have been problems with secondary school places (there is no secondary in Wheathampstead. We have been looking at the St Albans/Wheathampstead/Harpenden areas and ruled out Wheathampstead for this very reason. Probably one reason why you can get more house for your money in Wheathampstead. The situation is unlikely to improve because they are talking about building housing on the Wheathampstead Development Centre site. We have now agreed to buy a house in St Albans

Thanks Sylvm, I spoke to her this afternoon. She is going to contact the schools mentioned on the OFSTED website and ask what the situation is.

Any other local tips/points anyone knows of, I'll pass them on.

We moved recently and it's not even occured to me to check out the situation with the local school as DS is still a baba (and I'm a teacher!)
