Anyone voting in Cambridge?

Acinonyx · 13/10/2011 12:01

I'm dithering really. Who couldn't love Brian? But I like Michael's view's on education (but too political for this post maybe?). Sainsbury might be good for the university - might bring in dosh. I love the idea of the muslim shopkeeper - but unrealistic, I think.

Come sway me with your opinions, fellow voters.

Argh. Envy I can't make it tomorrow because of work, so shall miss the chance to stalk you all. Am voting on Saturday.

EllaDee · 13/10/2011 22:37

Ooh, that's reminded me - how is your new course going? I remember you posting about a course of women's literature and feminist texts in the Feminism section, is it up and running now?

EllaDee · 13/10/2011 22:37

boffin - I'd love to, but don't plan around me, I'm a bit worried about my journey times atm.

Penthesileia · 13/10/2011 22:39

Hey. Fine thanks, v. well. One reason why I can't vote tomorrow. Wink

BoffinMum · 13/10/2011 22:39

Poo
I really fancied a meetup and debrief

VeronicaSpeedwell · 13/10/2011 22:44

I'm voting Michael - I see the point about the nature of the role being incompatible with some of the things he'd like to achieve politically, but I still want to show support for those ideals. However I have an early scan in the morning after some bleeding at less than 8 weeks into first pg, so I won't promise to meet up (namechanger....). Would have been great otherwise.

EllaDee · 13/10/2011 22:47

Penthe - I'm glad it's going well - it sounded great fun.

boffin - I feel a bit of a fraud as I'm not an academic and so on, but I am going to come, I'm just worried from past experience of the X5 that my timings are going to be wrong. If you'd like, I'll PM you my number, though? I am going to aim for lunchtime anyway, whether or not you and Acinonyx or others decide to meet up another time or on Saturday, that's all I meant.

EllaDee · 13/10/2011 22:48

Cross-post - Veronica, best of luck at your scan.

Matsikula · 13/10/2011 22:53

Vincentvangough, you got me a bit excited with your talk of real Masters, but it still has to be a Cambridge one, and I escaped.

Boo.

Acinonyx · 13/10/2011 23:08

Ella - it would be great to meet up. I could stay for lunch - I'm just anxious to get back for the school run. I'll pm my no to you and Bof and we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Right, official MN lunch meetup at 1230 today in ground floor pub bit of Grad Pad on Mill Lane, if anyone wants to come along. Then voting afterwards.

BoffinMum · 14/10/2011 11:51

Apparently according to someone who has worked with him, Brian is a raving nutter and no camera crew ever work with him twice, for the simple reason that he is so difficult to deal with. Apparently.Wink

mascarpone · 14/10/2011 12:00

I live miles away now so can't get there. Was quite tickled at the thought of being able to vote though. Mind you, more upset at the thought of missing out on an MN meet up Blush Have fun!

norriscoleforpm · 14/10/2011 12:04

Brian all the way!!

MorningPurples · 14/10/2011 15:03

I voted earlier today. Was easy and efficient, took about 20 min in the queue as it was nearish lunchtime. Lovely day for standing around outside anyway. Well organised and easy to borrow gowns.

Those of you planning to meet up - you maybe don't know that the ground floor bar part of the Grad Pad closed in the summer.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 14/10/2011 15:17

Got back from the hospital (good news Smile) and voted very quickly too -- there's a fast track for those who are members of the Regent House, by the way. Sorry to miss the meet up, I hope you all had fun and that we can do it again some time (though if these elections only crop up every 164 years, I guess we'll need a different reason!).

EllaDee · 14/10/2011 18:57

Glad to hear that veronica! Smile

Weren't the loos something else?! I enjoyed it all (esp. meeting up, obviously.)

VeronicaSpeedwell · 14/10/2011 19:02

I am chuffed with my free badge Grin. It's like an 'I saw Santa' sticky bug.

BoffinMum · 14/10/2011 21:24

We had a luvverly time at the meet up. The Grad Pad bar is unlocked at the moment so the others waited until I got there and then we went to the Dining Hall for lunch. Things like Roast Beef and glasses of red wine were consumed. Then EllaDee and I went along to vote as Acinonyx had already voted, mindful of the demands of the school run. We were beside ourselves with excitement. There was very little queuing for Senate people. We shrieked with joy at the vision of loveliness that was the stately portable loos, and had a special wee in them in honour of the occasion. EllaDee and I attempted to steal the upmarket hand cream in a moment of utter madness but luckily it was screwed down - clearly they were expecting us. We then declared who we were and they looked us up in the Big Book. Then we did the ballot thingy and met outside in the lovely sunshine. After than we went to Cafe Nero, had capuccini and talked about research in a creative and lovely way. EllaDee is very clever and interesting so it was a real pleasure. Finally she had to go off and look at some manuscripts so we parted company, promising to do it again soon (the meetup, that is).

We took pictures so I'll upload them onto my profile in a minute.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 14/10/2011 21:41

I didn't try the loos Envy.

BoffinMum · 14/10/2011 21:50

Go back and have a quality wee!

Acinonyx · 14/10/2011 22:43

Yes, that was all very civilized. Alas, I could not join you for coffee as I had to supervise 3 6 yr-olds at the park and then serve tea. They did not discuss research with me in any style. They did smack the ketchup bottle for farting .....Hmm

Aw, that summary is excellently evocative!

I had great fun and was most amused to be canvassed by the Telegraph on the way home seeking to learn about my vote! (Why on earth do they care?!)

I've just got home and the coach was full of Oxford dons who'd been down for the vote. Grin

EllaDee · 14/10/2011 22:59

Ah, see, I'm one up on toddlers.

PhD students: You know they won't make ketchup fart.

It can be our new slogan.

Btw, my university has a 'Brian Blessed Centre for Quiet Study', I discovered today.

ShimmeryPixie · 16/10/2011 16:57

Is there a known result yet (would've voted but was away for the weekend)?
