Nursery in Croydon/Wallington that teaches

Hi my 2 & 1/2 year old boy goes to nursery 3 days a week. He has been there for 6 months now and he really hasn't learned anything. He previously went to another nursery for 4 months and learned so much, unfortunately I had to move, hence the chance in nurseries. Anyway, I would really like him to attend a nursery that doesn't just let him play all day in the garden. Does anyone know any in Croydon or Wallington area. Thanks

Shouldn't 2.5 year olds be playing in the garden rather than 'learning'? Plenty of time for that when older!

I actually think learning numbers, letters, colours and shapes are good for small children.

If they learn them through the course of normal day to day play then fine but the idea of forcing them to learn anything at that age doesn't sit right with me.

He will be school age soon enough and can learn things like that then.

Personally I would be annoyed with a nursey trying to teach anything like that, encouraging it fair enough but not forcing it.

Thank you Sirzy for your personal opinion. I would still like to know if anyone knew of a nursery like Hopscotch in Sussex that teach the children as well as play. I am looking for a nursery in either Croydon or Wallington.

I heard a good review from one of my colleague about Montessori nursery in Thornton Heath - her son was there, they had spanish lessons, learnt numbers, something else. Google it and pay a visit - maybe it's what you are looking for.

Try Jancett Group of Day Nurseries. They have nurseries in Croydon and Wallington. Their head office is based in Wallington. They are private nurseries, though, so if you don't want to pay too much, wait until the April after your child's 3rd birthday.

Hello Samijo. If you are still looking, try the Purley Day Nursery and Montessori Centre on Burcott Road (off old Lodge Lane). My DC has been there since age 14 months and is now a happy and confident 4 year old who can read, write, count to over 300 (but that's just DC's personal love of numbers I think!) speaks a little Spanish (taught free) and a lot of French ! (you have to pay extra for that),is learning to play tennis (that's an extra as well) and also gets to go on all sort of exciting, fun-filled educational activities.
