Don't know if i did the right thing but there's a boy in ds class with impetigo round his mouth he was sent home yesterday from school because he was throwing up but he is back in school this morning! So i took ds home telling school i do not won't my ds at school when children are at school with sickness bugs and something that is highly contagious. What would you do? Do you agree?

Deffo should not have been in school with V & D bug

or for 24 hours afterwards

I don't know anything about impetigo, but am surprized they allowed a V &/or D back to school

JonesTheSteam · 25/11/2005 11:07

Children with impetigo are not supposed to be allowed back to school until the sores have healed over and are no longer weeping.

nhs advice on impetigo

LIZS · 25/11/2005 11:08

If the impetigo is being treated with ab's then they can go back after a day or two. Are you sure it is impetigo and not just bad eczema ?

tbh if he was sick yesterday I wouldn't have expected him to be back today unless he is like dd who can be sick when she has a cough.

What did the school say, surely they have a duty of care to the majority of the children to find out if the child is contagious and request mum takes him home if need be ?

Would have done the same 3kids, perhaps you should ask the school to have a word with the childs parent?

School seemed a bit shocked by me and said they would look into it. The boy impetigo is all over his top lip if it had been somewhere on him that was covered ie belly then i don't think i'd have been to concerned, i also can't get over that the school sent him home yesterday cos he was throwing up and he's back in school today. I shouldn't have to take my ds home when there is nothing wrong with him because other parents won't keep there kids off when they are ill, i know all kids get sick with bugs and stuff but to send them back this soon seems stupid to me. especially with xmas round the corner.

we have kids who are being sick at school and still being sent in! both parents at work (know its hard ) but its not fair on the rest of the school!!!!

brightstar

What about the poor child !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO it is awful to send your sick child to school

They need to be home if they have V & D near a bowl or a toilet

What is the point in sending them to school they will not learn very much if they are ill will they?

I would be careful about assuming impetigo as (a) it may be beig treated with abs in which case can attend and (b) can look very similar to infected eczema in which case he can attend.

If he has a bug though should be home.

The boy is friends with my ds and he told him he's got impetigo after my ds asked him what was on his lip.

Sent a letter excusing ds1 from swimming today as he has a large open sore on his leg. teacher was surprised that i would stop him going. I told her that i know a lot of children are still sent in with Impetigo and i would rather not risk it.(apart from it being V.sore). she didn't know what to say, but thought i should have sent him anyway!!. would she go in, I wonder?

There is impetigo going around DS's school and we got a letter telling us to keep child off if they catch it but they can go back once on ABs for 2 days.
