I have joined our PTA and was wondering what things you all do as part of your PTA.

I want to do my best.

We're a private school (with a proprieter), so slightly different from most I guess, but the PTA

  • organises social events for parents and families (eg reception mums are going out for a meal next week, dads went bowling a couple of weeks ago, and there is a family race night tonight)
  • organises class lists (names, contacts, birthdays)
  • organises collections for Christmas presents for teachers and TAs
  • organises 2nd hand clothing sales

There is some fund raising, but mainly incidental or for charities, given the ownership of the school.

Thanks ladymuck

I like the idea of the social evenings. At present i think the PTA does a lot of fundrasing stuff or playground equipment.

I guess one of the main aims of most PTAs is fundraising. But I guess this should be easier if you have a "gang" of parents, so it might still be worth working on the social side of things first before going for fundraising? Certainly doing stuff for parents in a class or year group seems to work quite well at our school. Teachers and TAs come along for meals etc too.

We have a 'friends of' rather than a PTA at DS school.
