is anyone aware of any classes parents can go to to help us teach our children - I'm not a teacher by profession, I am patient with my DS when trying to teach him but wouldn't mind some advice myself ?

the school I work is runs 'booster' evenings to help children learn at home, how to help with home work etc.

Does your school do something similar?

Try contacting you local surestart or council as they will run family literacy and numeracy classes.

They hold regular workshops for parents at dd's school, and we recently had a 45 minute presentation by the Reception teachers on how they're teaching the children to read, and how we can help them at home. Maybe it would be worth asking your school if they would be able to do something like that.
