How do you get to become an Ofsted Inspector?

Talking to a friend involved in education today, who mentioned there's difference between HMI and an ordinary Inspector.

Didn't know there were types of inspectors, which made me wonder how people become them eg what experience do people need, what training is there etc?

No training or experience needed, just a blinkered and negative take on life and a perverse pleasure in pissing people off.

Lots are Headteachers who do it on the side. Which can be ok as they are up to date on school life or bad because your school will always be run differently which is a bad thing

No training or experience needed? There must be some surely?

Rosebud05, did you not detect the sarcastic tone in my post?

Rosebud05 · 15/06/2011 19:35

No, tbh, as my friend mentioned that you didn't need a background in education to be an inspector and that there was very arms length supervision, so I haven't a clue what is sarcasm and what is just bureaucratic idiocy.

Those who can, do
those who cannot, teach
those who cannot teach, teach teachers
those who cannot even manage that, inspect
