Gingerbear lol at hovis tune
That?s still true in Leicester - the school hols start I think 2 weeks earlier in the summer for factory fortnight, and October half term is a week earlier too, very handy if you go away as most flights/hols etc are cheaper! Not that I am in leicester but some colleagues are.

But JanH when I was growing up we had the Burnley school holidays (which were 5 weeks from beginning of July) and 2nd week in September whereas my Dad working in Clitheroe got last two weeks in July and 3rd week in September. He still does in fact. We quite often got taken out for that 3rd week in September.

Actually misdee, I would be seriously worried if the school complained about taking your children out to see their seriously ill dad.

I know teachers who have been not allowed a day off to get married!

As I said before, my dds arent at school yet. And if needed, we will take them out of school for a holiday until they go to secondary school and then it will stop. However, we will only take them for 1 week, we rarely go on holiday for more than 1 week as DH is self employed. I'm quite happy to plan for them to do something educational when we are away.

Dd is in year 8. I am a single parent and my mum pays for a holiday abroad for the three of us. Been no problem at all during primary school. I gave in a holiday form last December to say that dd would be taking a week off in July (it was the last week of term). Receptionist looked at it and said it would be fine. Mum booked the holiday and even got a free child place. At beginning of February i had a letter come from the school to say that dd could not have the week of school as it is in term time. I was threatened with a large fine or jail. Went to school on same day and spoke to office about it. Told them that it was booked etc and they were not at all interested, just saying that it would go on dd's record, that she will be behind in her work (although she is way ahead of others and is top of her sets and has no time off). I pointed out that it was the last week of the school year and they don't do anything and that it was the week where they only go on a couple of trips anyway. But to no avail. So mum re-booked for August. Obviously lost the free place and was slightly more expensive AND had to pay to change the booking. When the week came in July that we would have originally have been going away, three of her close friends had holidays. One had the week and two had the last two weeks of term off. I WAS FURIOUS. I went into school and asked what would happen to these children (plus others i found out about) and their parents who have obviously ignored the letter. Would they be gettng the thousand pound fine or jail? What a surprise. No, nothing would happen. In my letter i was threatened by the welfare person at the school so i asked to speak to her. She said there was nothing they could actually do about parents taking their children out. Well thanks a lot i said. What a waste of time. Nothing was ever said to these parents i expect and i did ask one of them and she said she ignored the letter and that was it and nothing got said afterwards!! I don't mind the school saying no but as long as it is not one rule for one and one rule for another. Now i am stuck as to what to do now. Mum wants to book for next year, possibly the last week of term again in July. Should it get booked and hand the form in at the last minute and ignore the rest? Sorry this is long but it really annoyed me
