DD2 is not doing as well as she could with english, in particular Creative Writing. Can anyone offer any advice on how I can support her?
She struggles applying what she knows about adjectives, similies, sentance construction etc to her creative writing.

Does anyone know how I can help her please

or put it another way - How can I help a DC who could do worksheet after worksheet on adjectives, similies , etc.. but does not apply it to her creative writing.

Am I worrying unecessarily - will it just happen?

It will just happen.

Does she read for pleasure? Reading as much as poss and as wide a variety as poss will expose her to ways of expressing ideas and she will absorb these and lo and behold they will begin to pop up in her writing.

The Literacy Strategy can seem quite mechanical in the way it teaches writing but it does provide children with the tools. The creative bit comes from reading IMO

Does she have prompts in the classroom? By this I mean do they use VCOP, pizza sentences, sandwich sentences, WOW words etc??

Wow thanks everyone!

Hmm - reading - can read and comprehend well ( got exam results to prove it) but the reading for pleasure element escapes her!. Have posted about this before. I know deep down that her lack of reading is responsible for this.

Thank you all will check out the websites.

Please don't forget too that creative writing is really hard. It sounds easy but it really isn't and is, I think, the hardest part of English to do well.
