If you (or your dc) are sitting an exam then please

1. anwer the question that was set, and not the one that you were hoping would come up

2. put your actual candidate number on the cover, not some other random string of meaningless digits

3. use handwriting that is at least partially legible

and please don't use the exam as an oppotunity to

1. rant about the fact that 'your question' did not come up

2. moan about the inadequacies your teacher/lecturer

How do you feel about drawings though? I have been known to include a sunshine or a raincloud on my rough paper, depending on how thins have gone.

All rough workings should be crossed out or I would be obliged to at least try and work out the relevance to the essay :)

There must have been a mark scheme for the question as originally set, presumably it was some kind of typo that scuppered it. Does anyone know for sure? Was the question towards the end of the paper, and therefore one of the more difficult?
As things have turned out, I'd imagine the Awarding Body will work out a way of marking the attempts, standardise the marks and release results on the due date.

I heard about this Maths paper too, dd said. Thankfully we are only at GCSE but thats Monday and she dreading it

camptownraces it was an 'impossible' question, 8 marks which was over 10% overall. Think it was about half-way through so there is no knowing how much it affected how the students completed the exam

I had an 'impossible' question on my University finals - IIRC I got marks for the attempt together with an allowance of marks for time spent thinking about it and another allowance of marks for being flustered by having something that made no sense in a final exam. I did unexpectedly well on the paper overall, so I think the marks for thinking and being flustered were pretty generous, but I was really upset at the time.

Thought it might cheer your DC up a bit to hear this.

AS RE had a question not on the syllabus this year. Do they therefore adapt mark scheme accordingly? Apparently an obviously dippy comment on the same paper.

I used to mark GCSEs. Was dire in the extreme. Very often the exam papers are not up to scratch. Totally wrong imo.

goingmad it does begger belief that there are so many errors in exam papers, surely you'd think they'd be checked and double-checked!
