Help! Re Schools in Newington Green/Islington

Hi, I am from Australia and I am not sure how the school system works here.

I am moving to Newington Green and wondering what were the best primary schools in this area - how do I find out which catchment area I am in? When do you have to start applying for schools?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

No catchments, but those nearest to the school get in - distances can be around 0.25-0.5 km. look at the Hackney & Islington council websites, schools are run by a separate company but it's linked from there. Then read some Ofsteds for your nearest schools and go visit. At Newington Green i'd say Grasmere is a good bet, v popular though also very white middleclass.
