Brackenfield prep Harrogate?

We are planning a move to Harrogate as we want our DC to go to Harrogate Grammar, apart from it being a good school but the main reason for me is that they teach Italian GCSE and A level and as the children are Italian bilingual I would love them to have this opportunity.

We'll have to go prep because of the logistics of moving 4 children and a house move (we are just about commutable to Harrogate, although half an hour each way!) so I have been looking at Brackenfield, as we will probably be living around the centre somewhere!

Does anyone have any experience of this school? It seems lovely and friendly but anymore info would be gratefully received. THANKS!!!!

Oh, you'll need to live closer to Harrogate Grammar School (isn't a grammar school btW) if you want to get in there. Think along the lines of on the doorstep, you MIGHT just stand a chance of getting in then!

cleverclod, really? Tell me more! I thought that 0.5/0.4 miles from the school was guaranteed entry?

There are no guarantees with anything!

There have been loads of complaints in recent years of children who live very close by not being able to get into the school because of the ridiculous admission rules they have.

You'd have a better chance of getting your children into the school by living in one of the villages (ie: Beckwithshaw, Hampsthwaite etc) as they are given priority over the town's children - there was a slight change to the rules last year, but not enough to worry anyone living in the villages.

The village primary schools are also outstanding, so you could save your money on Brackenfield and if the worst comes to the worst look at somewhere like Ashville for secondary.

Before you move your best best would be to contact the LAEO and ask about catchment areas/admission policies.
