should i change dd's playgroup?

she goes to a playgroup 3 mornings a week, she seems to enjoy it, shes really keen to go and runs in the door

BUT

it is quite far away from our house and we have to walk or get the bus

i want her to start going every morning, and they have no more spaces

they serve crap food (morning snack is a jammy dodger and water or milk)

its a bit grubby

the 'teachers' dont seem to have enough time to chat to the parents, i struggle to engage them in conversation (i just want to know how dd is getting on!)

the local primary school, which is closer, has a pre-school from age 3 and ive heard they have spaces.

i could go in this afternoon and see if they have spaces for dd

how would it affect dd if i changed her playgroup?

in the long term this would be the group of boys and girls she would have in her school class, and i like this idea

FWIW, we're in a similar position and I'm changing DD2 to a new nursery - she's nearly 3. It just feels like a harder decision when you have no real gripes with the existing set-up but an easier family life is a valid reason for a change IMHO.

i would change in your situation.

In your situation I would move to the school nursery if they have a place. Children of this age seem to adapt fairly easily to this kind of change. Good luck!

oh i was hoping someone would come along and say how great they are at adapting to change

i do worry about dd and making friends, she desperately wants lots of friends, i hope they are a nice bunch

DD1 had four different nurseries and guess what - she survived!

Correction, five. Someone gave me some good advice which was not to dwell at all on the place you're leaving but be very over the top enthusiastic about the new nursery - this certainly worked very well for dd1.

I changed my DDs nursery when she was coming up to 4 (she had some really good frinds there, one of which a year and a half later is still her bf).

I was really worried about it.

They told me (and maybe they'd say this anyway) that they were amazed she settled in so well. It made the transition to school seamless, which was my primary reason for moving her.

i think if i tell ehr shes going to "school" she will be very excited

NP that's what I did, told my DD that she was going to pre-school, worked a dream.

went into the school office and they have spaces from january

dd was really excited walking through the school gates

they gave me loads of stuff to read up on and it sounds excellent!
