Starting at Coombe Girls School Sep - advice please

My DD is due to start in y7 at Coombe Girls School this Sep.

We have had a letter offering her a place on the Summer School for new girls in August.

Has anyone any experience of their DD going on this in the past? Did they find it helpful in settling in?

My DD will not know anyone in her year when she starts so keen to do anything that will help her settle in.

My dd is in yr 9 and did the summer school.
It 's a great way of making new friends......dd had outgrown her primary school classmates and wanted to meet new girls.
Having said that, her friendships have changed over the last 3 years, but she is still good friends with the girl she became friendly with that week.
What school is she coming from?
Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks for the reply deaddei and sorry for the delayed response - been out and about a lot this weekend! Smile

Her primary school is not local so has not got to know anyone her age in the local area.

Glad to hear your DD enjoyed the summer school - sounds like it will be a good idea for DD.

We have 2 neighbours in y9 at the moment who DD is friendly with so she will be able to walk in with them which will be a help.

I am still a bit worried about DD as she will not know anyone else in the year but she is pretty outgoing and usually makes friends easily.

WRT other info, does the music dept offer individual music lessons? DD has singing lessons at school at the moment and not sure whether to ask her present teacher to teach her after school or try lessons at Coombe.

Has the new Head started yet? If so, what are your impressions?

Thanks for listening to my ramblings! Grin

New head is excellent...she has been working across the federation for 10 years, so knows the schools well.
I am very sorry to see Mrs C retire, but am looking forward to the future.
Not sure about singing lessons...they have an excellent chamber choir, you have to audition to get in.
I am sure your dd will be fine.....through work, I speak to lots of year six children in the summer term, about transition..I am possibly going to your dd's school.

I was very impressed with her at the open evening, glad all turning out well.

Choir looks interesting, will make sure to tell DD to look out for the auditions.

Not sure if you would be going to DD's school as she is the only one going to Coombe Girls from her primary.

Wish I could fast forward to September and see her settled in, I know really that she will be fine but can't help fretting until I see her settled! Smile

Thanks for your help deaddei, it is really great to get the inside word, very reassuring.
